The foundation of knowing
by Renzo Beltrame
AbstractThe foundation of knowingFollowing Ceccato's papers, the path is traced which, starting from a radical criticism of the philosophy heritage, led to a description of the mind products in terms of constitutive activity. Linguistic convention was used to single out the mental items, together with the awareness of the personal activity in doing them. Few basic functions, hypothetically related to attention and memory, were employed to describe systematically our knowledge. Special importance was given to the elementary notions, and to the philosophically relevant ones. The previous criticism of the knowing process is always present as awareness that the constitutive activity of a mental item does not encompass the process by which this constitutive activity is produced.
Keywords: cognitive activity, knowledge representation, Italian Operational School (SOI).

Power, love, death and God. About psychotherapeutic trespassings of Silvio Ceccato’s operational methodology
by Felice Accame
AbstractPower, love, death and God. About psychotherapeutic trespassings of Silvio Ceccato's operational methodologyInitially, Silvio Ceccato and the Italian Operational School gave the name of 'Operational Methodology' to a particular technique of the analysis of the outcome of mental processes. That particular name properly defines the underlying conceptual point of view, that is: a) to consider the mental constructs themselves such as outcomes of mental operations; b) to investigate the nature of these operations; c) to let the operator aware about such operations. Without going beyond the limits defined by this investigation, this approach might lead to liberating – and therapeutically useful – new opportunities for valuable human relationships.
Keywords: operational methodology, Italian Operational School, models of mental activity, thought-language relationship, psychotherapy.

Silvio Ceccato, from language to thinking and return. One century ago the new Prometheus was born
by Pier Luigi Amietta
AbstractSilvio Ceccato, from language to thinking and return. One century ago the new Prometheus was bornThe centennial anniversary of the birth of Silvio Ceccato has just occurred, on January 25th, 2014, recalling the genius of the creator of “Adam II”, and father of the Third Cybernetics, without any acknowledgment by the intellectual establishment. It is shameful. This contribution, included among the others in a Constructivist journal (Ceccato was an operationist), is meant to be a small revenge for someone who Walter Fornasa has defined “the greatest removed of italian culture”. This contribution is highlighting both the fundamental elements of the vision of this mind spelaeologist and the reasons explaining why Ceccato is a fallen Titan, but also someone whose bright research freed human thinking from metaphysical fogs and has opened the way to a new andragogy.
Keywords: language, mind, communication, meaning, freedom.

How the model of the mind and the practice teaching of Silvio Ceccato “The unlikely Teacher” can contribute to realize a “real” school
by Gianclaudio Lopez
AbstractHow the model of the mind and the practice teaching of Silvio Ceccato 'The unlikely Teacher' can contribute to realize a 'real' schoolThe model of mind of Silvio Ceccato, put in place in his teaching practice of 'The unlikely Teacher' in elementary school and continued by a group of his collaborators, provides a tool for a renewal of teaching and teacher/pupil communication in the school and for the re-motivation in teaching and learning. The model maintains and enhances some of the basic principles of traditional pedagogy and didactics showing its practicability with contents usually considered the most problematics. The construction and re-construction of knowledge and various skills, based on an analysis of the meanings of the terms used in everyday speech, according to the technique of operational awareness can thus achieve a promotion of the active participation of the learner and make interdisciplinarity effective. Here are some examples of educational practices, and some guidelines for the training of teachers in this direction. It is shown that this is not only an 'active' teaching among others, and are presented and discussed 15 possible objections and misrepresentations that have so far hampered and can still prevent its spread.
Keywords: Model of the mind, teaching, motivation, operational awareness, education, communication, teacher training.

To put – to put in order – to compose (for an aware musical artistic doing)
by Gastone Zotto
AbstractTo put - to put in order - to compose (for an aware musical artistic doing)Art is a totally mental thing: the present research starts from this impressive intuition, gifted to the humanity by Leonardo da Vinci five centuries ago. Indeed Art, anyway expressed, has unique and global origin and existence in the mental sphere, both for who produces it and for who read it. Art has not to be found into things; if anything, it has to be located into them, or, more precisely, it has to be formed into the human mind, both the one which creates things with artistic aims (the Artist’s mind), and the other which observes the same things with corresponding point of view (the Customer’s mind). By this analysis we wants to show how in the world of Art TO PUT, TO PUT IN ORDER, and TO COMPOSE find just in the mental process a corresponding distinguished operational novelty.
Keywords: put, put in order, compose, aesthetic attitude, mental construct.
