Dodgy Science and Dodgy Scientists. The Dancer or the Dance?
by David Green
AbstractDodgy Science and Dodgy Scientists. The Dancer or the Dance?Kelly’s central metaphor of man-the-scientist has been subjected to various criticisms from within and without PCP. People frequently do not construe their worlds in the manner that scientists are supposed to make sense of events. Nor, it appears from a series of recent publications, do a significant number of scientists. Do these revelations further undermine the credibility of the 'man-the-scientist' metaphor or does the complementary notion of the Scientist as Person illustrate the continued usefulness of Kelly’s big idea?
Keywords: Personal Construct Theory, “man-the-scientist”.

Embracing guilt, excavating shame
by Bernardette O’Sullivan
AbstractEmbracing guilt, excavating shameGeorge Kelly gave much attention to guilt as a psychological construct of transition and as an important emotional experience centrally involved in the construction of the self. It is argued here that when his writings are read in detail the construct of guilt is seen to bear a remarkable similarity to shame as usually understood. The consequences of working with Kelly’s particular construction of guilt are considered and particularly in the light of more recent psychological and bio psychosocial research.
Exploring guilt also raises the interesting question of the relationship between core and core role constructs. Finally, it is argued that Kelly’s attention to the “other in the self” (relational ontology) is a most valuable contribution and one which his understanding of guilt illustrates, above all else.
Keywords: guilt, shame, core constructs, core-role constructs, socio-relational domain.

Teaching psychotherapy in constructivist psychotherapy: the model of the Institute of Constructivist Psychology. When the post-modern meets the ancient
by Francesca Del Rizzo
AbstractTeaching psychotherapy in constructivist psychotherapy: the model of the Institute of Constructivist Psychology. When the post-modern meets the ancientTeaching psychotherapy is a new discipline. The literature on this issue is very scarce. Balzani et al. (2011) tried to illustrate the formative model created by the Institute of Constructivist Psychology in Padua. This model stems directly from the epistemological assumptions of Personal Construct Psychology (Kelly, 1955). In this paper a further reflection on ICP model is made thanks to references at the art of teaching philosophy in Ancient Greece. Some analogies are highlighted and the role of the teacher is particularly underlined.
