A research programme for queer studies. Queer theory and Harvey Sacks’s Membership Categorization Analysis
by Carmen Dell’Aversano
Abstract
This paper starts by defining queer as the de-ontoligization of categories and the denaturalization of their performances. Its aim is to map out a research programme for queer studies based on the work of US sociologist Harvey Sacks. This would make it possible to generalize the application of queer theory to the analysis of the repressive consequences of all forms of categorization and to highiligh these repressive effects in a huge variety of social contexts and situations. This would considerably broaden the range of convenience of queer theory.
Keywords: queer theory, queer studies, Harvey Sacks, membership categorization analysis.
